Diving In Maldives | Scuba Dive Trips
Exploring the depths in the Maldives
The Maldives is home to 26 atolls and hundreds of islands in the Indian Ocean, though only less than 300 of them are inhabited currently. With swaying palm trees, turquoise waters, dreamy beaches and beautiful marine life, Maldives is also one of the top vacation spots in the world.
Besides the beauty of Maldives which attracts millions of honeymooners and families, it is also fast becoming a favourite dive spot amongst scuba divers. Indeed, diving is definitely one of the top things to do when in Maldives, whether you are an absolute beginner or seasoned diver. Here are some useful information on diving in Maldives:
Why Dive in Maldives?
The water flowing from the Indian Ocean to the channels connecting the islands contain plankton and nutrients which attract an incredible marine life, making it an amazing spot for scuba divers looking to explore the vast marine life in the archipelago. Furthermore, there are hundreds of islands here, some populated and many deserted, which makes the area around Maldives an exciting playground to be discovered.
This abundance of marine life not found in other parts of the world is the main reason why diving in Maldives is a must-try. Here you can spot pelagic fishes like Barracuda, Eagle Rays, Manta Rays and even the rare Whale Shark. Some have even spotted Grey Reef Shark and Hammerhead Shark while diving in Maldives!
The other best part about diving here is the clear visibility of the water which allows you to see from 20 to 40 meters deep. Not only will this really enhance the diving experience, it also makes Maldives a great place for underwater photography. Why settle for just diving when you can dive and take great pictures you can keep forever?
When to Dive in Maldives?
The weather in Maldives is warm and humid all year round, which makes it easy to dive anytime of the year. However, the wet season between May to August may reduce the water visibility slightly though diving is still doable then. The best time to dive is between January to April as you will get the best visibility and dry weather then.

Where to Dive in Maldives?
There are many diving spots in Maldives, with at least 15 of its 26 atolls being the perfect location for diving. Some of the atolls that are great for beginners are Baa Atoll, Dhaalu Atoll, Haa Alif Atoll and Meemu Atoll. These areas are beginner-friendly as they have wider and shallower channels, as well as equally vibrant marine life.
Ari Atoll is the best site for diving as its clear blue water is packed with pelagic species. It is also very accessible so most of the liveaboards will visit it. If you would like to check out wreck sites in your diving expedition, be sure to include Lhaviyani Atoll, Haa Alif and Laamu Atoll which contains a Buddhist ruin.
