What to do at and around Surin Beach, Phuket
Discover the tranquil charm of Surin Beach in Phuket
Phuket Island in Thailand is home to a number of beautiful beaches. Besides the ever-popular Patong Beach, another beach that's famous with travellers is Surin Beach. Located a short drive north of Patong, Surin is a quieter beach on the west coast of Phuket .
Patong used to be a party beach packed with numerous beach bars and clubs along the coast, but over the years it has transformed into a calmer area surrounded by luxury resorts and hotels. That said, there is still plenty to do on and around the beach. Plus, it's a great place to avoid the crowd. Read the post below if you want to find out more about what Surin Beach has to offer.
1. Relax on the beach
Just like any other beach, Surin Beach is a great place to get your tan on and relax. You can sunbathe while reading a good book, lounge on the sand doing nothing, or have a picnic with your family along the coast. A quieter beach, Surin is a suitable place to relax for those seeking respite from busy tourist hotspots. There are even local hawker stalls selling fruits, drinks, and snacks around the car park.
2. Water sports
If you like water sports, then Surin Beach is a must-visit Phuket attraction. It has an impressive list of available water activities and vendors that you can rent equipment from. Some activities available include snorkelling, kayaking, surfing, stand-up paddleboarding, and boogie boarding. The waters here are clear during Phuket's high season from November to March but the low season (May to October) is popular with surfers and boogie boarders. However, the beach may be better suited for advanced surfers since there are large rocks and sandbanks that can create tricky waves.
3. Visit the Green Elephant Sanctuary Park
The Green Elephant Sanctuary Park is only 10 minutes away from Surin Beach. It's an elephant sanctuary where you can see elephants in their natural habitat and even interact with them. It's located in the middle of a huge jungle, making it a great place for the elephants to live in. They are also one of the few sanctuaries that focus on protecting and providing the best care for the elephants. In fact, many of the gentle giants here are rescues from abusive parks.

5. Get a traditional thai massage
No trip to Thailand is complete without getting a Thai massage, and there are plenty of traditional massage parlours and spas in Phuket including around Surin beach. You can choose from a simple foot massage to a full body scrub and massage with Thai aromatic oil. 6. Go scuba diving
Scuba diving is one of the top attractions in Phuket. In fact, most beaches in Phuket are a short distance from dive centres where you can book dive tours, rent equipment, and purchase dive gears. Phuket has a number of dive spots and with the large coral reef system around the island, you can expect to bump into colourful tropical fishes, turtles, rays and even multiple species of sharks. Some famous dive locations include Phi Phi island and Shark Point.
