Club Med Tignes
The new Club Med flagship in the French Alps is now opened
French Alps, 2 December 2022 - Henri Giscard d’Estaing — Chairman/CEO of Club Med — opened the new mountain Resort, Club Med Tignes, located in the heart of the Tignes ski resort. A number of local officials, decision-making bodies, partners, investors, celebrities and media representatives also attended the event.
After 18 months of building work and an investment of around 130 million euros, Club Med partnered with the Banque des Territoires bank to open this new flagship Resort, Club Med Tignes, as part of its commitment to this iconic ski destination, where the brand has been present since 1958.
This new premium Resort features 430 guest rooms, available throughout the winter and summer months, and has created almost 400 jobs at the resort itself and 200 related jobs. There are also 338 bedrooms to accommodate staff.
The first guests are expected on 11 December and Club Med Tignes is already 80% booked over the festive season and well into January.

A Reunion of Tradition and Innovation
Henri Giscard d’Estaing, Chairman/CEO of Club Med, said: “Club Med has been present in Tignes from the resort’s beginnings and after two years of absence, we are delighted to show our ongoing affection for this world-renowned ski destination with our new Resort, located in a stunning setting at the Grande Motte funicular departure point. Starting from this winter season, Club Med Tignes will be delivering the most outstanding mountain experiences and fabulous, carefree holidays”.
Serge Revial, Mayor of Tignes, added: “We are delighted that the history between Tignes and Club Med, two historic and strong brands in international tourism, will continue with the ambition to succeed in the transition to tourism that respects our planet. As Mayor, I am particularly proud that Club Med is located in the heart of our hamlet of Val Claret, facilitating the integration of Club Med clients and employees into our ecosystem through the discovery of the Tignard spirit.”
The inauguration event included a series of four workshops, giving stakeholders an insight into what goes on behind the scenes when opening a Club Med Resort. Guests were shown the socio-economic impact of the new resort, what is meant by “building and operating in a responsible way” and recruiting the best local talent.
Harmonious Relaxation In An Unspoilt Natural Setting
For some years, Club Med has been demonstrating its commitment via the “Happy to Care” programme, putting a number of actions in place to promote responsible tourism. The new Club Med Tignes is aiming to be the figurehead for holidays that show greater respect to nature and wildlife.
The Resort has been seamlessly woven into the landscape thanks to the work of architect Jean-Philippe Nuel. The building takes natural inspiration from the mountains and combines this with modern design in the form of aluminium elements and extensive glazing. It’s a subtle alliance of tradition and modernity that makes Club Med Tignes one of the most contemporary resorts in the Alps. It’s set to be the first Club Med project to obtain a “Very Good” BREEAM certification rating. This exemplary level of achievement was possible thanks to an emphasis on environmental performance, installing photovoltaic solar panels on balconies and heat pumps and using innovative, responsible insulation options.

Eco-Friendly Club Med Tignes
To monitor and optimise energy consumption, a major BMS (Building Management System) facility will ensure that the Tignes Resort infrastructure will be better managed with reduced energy usage.
Club Med Tignes is also aiming to obtain Green Globe certification for day-to-day operations at the resort — an accreditation that 95% of Club Med resorts worldwide have already achieved.
The Resort is testament to Club Med’s willingness to take action towards engaged tourism. The Bye-Bye Plastic programme has been implemented to eliminate single-use plastic in bars, guest rooms and restaurants within the resort, in line with all Club Med Resorts. Particular care has been taken to select local, seasonal produce with an emphasis on short supply chains, together with optimised buffet management to reduce food waste.
Club Med has also launched a major landscaping project at the Tignes site to enrich and embellish the local ecosystem. Around a hundred local species of trees (Swiss pine, larch, birch, etc.) have been planted on the site for visitors to enjoy.
Tignes: The New Alpine Jewel In Club Med’s Crown
In the heart of Val Claret, the most family-friendly and sociable part of the resort, Club Med Tignes is the ideal spot for enjoying an ultimate mountain experience. Close to the Chevril and Tignes lakes and sitting at the gateway of the Vanoise national park, it enjoys a maximum altitude of 2,100 metres, providing direct access to the pistes.
Club Med Tignes offers a premium experience in winter and summer alike, featuring seasonal activities so holidaymakers can have their fill of snow sports, nature, outdoor sports, relaxation, hiking or carefree holidays in wide-open spaces.
